Mackean Stewart
George Prince Mackean Stewart - father of George John Stewart - had a career in business before turning to full time painting - initially in watercolour, but latterly in oils and acrylics. He trained under J Mackintosh Patrick and that artist's attention to detail and feel for the landscape can still be seen in Mackean Stewart's work. His work is usually of landscapes and marine subjects (seascapes, ships, etc) and examples are held in private collections across the globe.
Mackean Stewart died in March 2010 after a long illness, but continued painting until shortly before his death. Many of his works have been made ready as giclee prints, and there is an illustrated book [provisionally entitled "Mackean Stewart's Kintyre"] which Kintyre Civic Society hope to publish in the near future.
